Lawn Care in Stafford, VA
Weekly Mowing, Mulch, Spring and Fall Cleanups, Aeration, and Full Property Programs Across All of Stafford County – Aquia Harbour to North Stafford, Falmouth to Hartwood – Same Crew Every Visit, HOA-Compliant, Insured
Stafford County is one of the biggest service footprints we run. It is also one of the most varied. Aquia Harbour has wooded gated lots on the Potomac. Embrey Mill and Park Ridge have tight high-density HOA streets. Falmouth has older river-adjacent properties with mature plantings. Hartwood has rural acreage where the back half of the lot is woods and the front needs to look kept. And the whole county turns over fast – Quantico orders move families in and out of Stafford homes on military timelines, which means a lot of yards need to look listing-ready on short notice.
IronHaul Co covers all of it. We are based on Wallace Lane in Fredericksburg, ten to twenty minutes from any Stafford address. We run weekly mowing programs across the county and we are set up for the seasonal add-ons – spring cleanup, mulch, aeration and overseed, fall leaf removal, hedge resets, full lawn renovations. Same two-person crew on your property every visit. Same insurance paperwork ready for whichever HOA needs it.
Stafford is large enough that most lawn-care vendors specialize in one corner – they do North Stafford or they do Aquia Harbour, not both. We do both, and we do Falmouth and Hartwood and Widewater on the way. If your property sits anywhere inside Stafford County, we have a crew that already runs that route.
Lawn Care Services for Stafford County Properties
Weekly Mowing Programs
Standard mow-edge-blow on a fixed weekly day. Mowing height tuned to grass type and season – tall fescue cut higher in July heat, lower in shoulder months. The Stafford mix means we are running different programs on the same route: open-lot weekly mows in Embrey Mill and Park Ridge, wooded-lot mows on Aquia Drive and Marlboro Point Road, larger-acreage mows out in Hartwood. We adjust pattern, deck height, and bagging-versus-mulching per property, not per route.
Spring Cleanup
The full reset before the growing season starts. Leaf removal from beds and corners winter winds buried, storm-debris pickup, dead-branch removal, hedge tidying, bed re-edging, pre-emergent if requested. Stafford properties that sat through a long winter usually need this before weekly mowing even shows. We get the lot to a clean baseline so the rest of the season compounds.
Fall Cleanup and Leaf Removal
Stafford has heavy fall drop, particularly in Aquia Harbour, Falmouth, and the older Garrisonville Road neighborhoods where the trees are forty-plus years in. Multi-visit leaf cleanups through October and November – blow, vacuum or pile, haul off. Final pass usually late November after the late oak drop. Beds get edged and mulched for winter.
Mulch Installation
Hardwood, dyed black or brown, pine bark, pine straw – whatever your beds are set up for. Bed prep, hand-edge cleanup, pre-emergent on request, mulch laid to consistent depth. Delivered by the cubic yard from local suppliers so you are not paying retail bag prices. Stafford properties typically take 3 to 15 yards depending on lot size and bed scope.
Bed Edging and Re-Edging
Clean spade-cut bed edges around all beds, tree wells, sidewalks, and driveway lines. Re-edging twice a season is what separates a maintained Stafford property from a mowed-but-tired one. This is one of the single highest-visual-impact items in the program.
Hedge and Shrub Trimming
Boxwoods, hollies, azaleas, hydrangeas, knockout roses, ornamental grasses. Older Falmouth and Aquia Harbour properties have decades of established plantings – newer Embrey Mill and Austin Ridge homes have builder shrubs that just need to be kept in line. Either way, we trim seasonally and haul the clippings the same visit.
Aeration and Overseeding
Core aeration in early fall, overseed with tall fescue tuned for Northern Virginia clay, starter fertilizer. This is the single highest-leverage thing you can do for an established Stafford lawn – particularly the older neighborhoods where the soil has been driven over for thirty years. Shade-tolerant blends for wooded Aquia Harbour lots, sun blends for the open Embrey Mill streets.
Lawn Renovation and Reset
Compacted clay, decade-old moss, dead patches under the tree line, ruts from a contractor truck during a remodel – sometimes a lawn is past trimming around. We run full reset programs: dethatch, kill off, regrade with our skid steer if grade is the underlying problem, topsoil where needed, sod or seed depending on budget. Done right once instead of patching it every spring.
Bundled Property Services
We are not a mow-only crew. If your Stafford property also needs tree work, junk hauled, a gravel driveway re-graded, or a brush line cleared, we coordinate it all on one property visit instead of three separate vendors stretched across three weeks. For HOA boards and property managers running common-area work see our HOA services page.

Why Stafford Homeowners Choose IronHaul for Lawn Care
- Same crew every visit. The same two-person team in May is the same team in October. They learn your lot – where the septic field is, which corner gets scalped, which bed lines stay back off the irrigation heads. Continuity is why year two of a program looks better than year one.
- County-wide coverage on one route. We are not a one-neighborhood operation. Aquia Harbour, Embrey Mill, Falmouth, Hartwood – all on our weekly schedule. That density is why we can hold pricing steady and respond fast on weather pushes.
- PCS-aware scheduling. Stafford is Quantico-adjacent. Half the calls we take have a closing date or a final-walkthrough date attached. We can do a one-week listing-prep blitz or a final-mow-before-handover slot – tell us the date and we work backward.
- HOA-compliant across every Stafford HOA. Aquia Harbour POA, Embrey Mill, Park Ridge, Hampton Oaks, Austin Ridge, Stafford Lakes – we already know the noise hours, dumpster rules, contractor expectations, and yard standards. You do not get a violation letter on our account.
- Wooded-lot specialists. Half of Stafford County has serious tree cover. That is not standard suburban mowing – root flares, shade patterns, underplantings, drop debris. We have the crew and the equipment for it.
- One crew for the whole property. Mulch installed, dead pine taken down, gravel washout regraded, junk pile hauled – all one coordinated visit, one quote.
- Insurance-ready paperwork. Full general liability on every visit. COI provided to any HOA management company on request.
- Local, owner-operated. You are calling the crew, not a national chain.
How a Recurring Stafford Lawn Program Works
- Free on-site walkthrough. We come out, look at the property, talk through what you want, flag problem zones – drainage, compaction, shade, root issues, septic field, well head. No commitment to look.
- Written program proposal. Weekly mow rate, plus per-visit add-ons (mulch, aeration, cleanups). Annual or month-to-month – your call. No long contracts required.
- Start date and crew assignment. Same two-person crew assigned to your account. Gate or HOA pre-clearance handled where it applies.
- Weekly visits, fixed day. You know what day we come. We do not need access to the house. Rain push is 1-2 days with a heads-up text.
- Seasonal touchpoints. Spring cleanup, mulch refresh, summer trim-ups, fall leaf cleanup, late-season pass. Add-ons quoted separately and scheduled in.
- Year-end review. What worked, what to change for next season – we will sit down for it.
What Lawn Care Costs in Stafford
Pricing varies with lot size, complexity, shade, and add-ons. Rough ranges for Stafford properties:
- Standard weekly mow (under half-acre) – $55 to $85 per visit
- Larger lot weekly mow (half to one acre) – $85 to $150 per visit
- Estate-scale weekly mow (one acre plus, wooded) – $150 to $275 per visit, quoted per property
- Spring cleanup – $350 to $1,200 depending on accumulated debris and bed scope
- Fall leaf cleanup (multi-visit) – $400 to $1,500 for a typical wooded Stafford lot
- Mulch installation – $90 to $130 per cubic yard installed (delivery, prep, install, cleanup)
- Core aeration + overseed – $300 to $700 depending on lot size
- Bed edging + re-edge – $150 to $450 per visit, depending on linear feet
Stafford-specific pricing note: rural Hartwood and Brooke acreage often falls outside the standard mow ranges because the cut zones are larger and the haul-off distances longer – those get priced per property after a walkthrough. Gated Aquia Harbour properties on our pre-clear list run the standard ranges with no access surcharge. All recurring programs are flat-rate per visit with seasonal add-ons quoted in advance.
Recent Stafford Lawn Care Projects
Pre-PCS Listing Prep – Embrey Mill
Air Force family had three weeks before orders and a listing agent who needed the property photo-ready. Yard had two seasons of skipped mulch refresh and a back corner where the prior owner had let leaves pile through two winters. We mowed and edged, pulled and hauled the corner debris, refreshed six cubic yards of brown hardwood mulch through the front beds, trimmed the boxwoods back into line, and ran one final mow the morning of the photo shoot. Listed three days later, under contract inside a week.
Full Property Reset – Hartwood Acreage
Two-and-a-half-acre lot off Poplar Road. New owners after a long-term tenant. The front pasture-lawn was full of ruts from a delivery truck that had bottomed out in winter. Skid-steer regrade of the ruts, topsoil top-dress, overseed, then a weekly mow program on a two-zone routine – tight cut around the house, taller cut on the back pasture edge. Two months in, the front looked like a lawn instead of a recovery project.
Septic-Field Mowing Program – Widewater
Older Widewater property where the drain field runs the entire side yard. Prior vendor had been running a heavy zero-turn over the laterals and the field was showing depression lines and stress patches. We switched to a stand-on mower on that section, adjusted the cut height up two clicks, ran a slow-overseed program for the stressed strips. Lawn evened out by midsummer and the lateral lines are no longer visible from the driveway.
Aeration + Overseed + Mulch Refresh – Falmouth
1960s home on Butler Road with mature oaks and a lawn that had been mowed by five different vendors over six years. Compacted clay, thin turf, weed pressure in the shaded zones. Fall core aeration, shade-blend tall-fescue overseed, starter fertilizer, and twelve cubic yards of pine-bark mulch refreshed through the front and side beds. The following spring the lawn came in dense for the first time in years and the owner moved us onto a year-round weekly program.
Stafford Lawn Care FAQ
Do you cover all of Stafford County or just one part?
All of it. Aquia Harbour, North Stafford, Falmouth, Garrisonville, Hartwood, Widewater, Stafford Courthouse, Brooke, Potomac Heights. All ZIP codes – 22554, 22555, 22556, and 22405 in Falmouth.
Can you mow safely over a septic drain field?
Yes. This comes up a lot on older Stafford rural and Widewater properties. We mark the field on the initial walkthrough, switch to lighter equipment over the laterals to avoid compaction, and keep cut height up to protect the cover. We will flag it on the proposal so you know which mower is going where.
Will you work inside Aquia Harbour, Embrey Mill, Park Ridge, and other Stafford HOAs?
Yes, all of them. We currently service properties inside the major Stafford HOAs every week. We follow noise hours, dumpster rules, and contractor expectations. We can provide a COI to your HOA management company on request. Board members and property managers – see our HOA services page.
Can you do a one-time listing-prep job instead of a weekly program?
Yes. PCS and listing prep is a regular Stafford call. Tell us the photo date or closing date and we will work backward – mow, edge, mulch, hedge reset, bed cleanup. Usually a one- or two-day project depending on lot size.
Will the same crew be on my property every visit?
Yes. Same two-person team runs your account so the property knowledge compounds. If someone is out we cover with a trained sub – never a random temp.
How do you handle Stafford’s clay soil for aeration and seeding?
Core aeration in early fall when the soil has moisture but is not saturated – pulling actual plugs, not spike-tine. Followed immediately by tall-fescue overseed tuned for Northern Virginia clay and starter fertilizer. We do not bother with summer aeration on Stafford clay – the timing is wrong and the result is not worth the cost.
What if it rains on my scheduled mow day?
We push the visit 1 to 2 days and text you a heads-up. We do not mow saturated lawns – it tears the lot up and rips the turf.
How do I get a quote without committing?
