Lake of the Woods is one of the largest private gated communities in Virginia – over four thousand homes spread across thousands of acres of wooded lots, two lakes, a golf course, and miles of internal roads. The owners are mostly retirees and second-homeowners. The trees are mature – oaks, pines, tulip poplars, hickories – and every storm threatens them. That is the work IronHaul Co shows up for inside the LOTW gates.

Tree work is the most common LOTW call we get. Standing hazardous trees flagged before storm season. Tree-on-house emergency response after a derecho. Multi-tree pre-sale property prep. Storm-debris sweeps touching six or eight lots in a focused two-day route. We bring climbers, rigging gear, skid steers, dump trailers, and forestry mulchers. See our main tree removal service page for full scope.

We carry full general liability coverage and provide documentation that LOWA admin or your individual lot management may need. Insurance-ready packets the same day on storm-claim work – critical because the LOTW property profile (retirees, second-homeowners, absentee owners) often runs through carriers that need fast and thorough paperwork.

Tree Services for Lake of the Woods Homeowners

Storm Cleanup – The LOTW Signature Call

LOTW gets hit hard by every storm system. Wind, ice, summer derechos. The mature canopy means trees come down somewhere in the community every significant weather event. We are routed for fast inside-the-gates response. Priority emergency calls when there is a daylight window – call (540) 717-9758 directly.

Hazardous and Dead Tree Removal

The wooded LOTW lots have decades of mature trees and some are failing. Beetle-killed pines, dead-crown oaks, leaning hickories after years of erosion or root disturbance. Better to call before the next storm than after. We do hazardous-tree assessments and we will tell you honestly if a tree can stay (we are not in the business of taking down healthy trees that do not need to come down).

Mature-Tree Removal with Rigging

LOTW interior lots are wooded enough that trees often have to come down between standing hardwoods, between the house and the deck, or between the driveway and a neighbor’s lot line. We rig – climbers set anchor points, sections lowered under control, every cut landed on a planned drop zone. Same crew, fully insured.

Tree-on-House, Tree-on-Car, Tree-on-Driveway

The LOTW emergency. An oak across the roof of a Birdie Road home. A pine across an Eagle Drive driveway. A tulip poplar through a deck on the eastern shore. We rig sections off in controlled cuts, document everything for insurance, and clear the property.

Stump Grinding

Grinding six to twelve inches below grade. Quoted as add-on with every removal. LOTW lots often have multiple stumps from earlier decades of tree work – we quote whole sets when an owner wants the lot reset.

Brush and Debris Haul-Off

The cleanup most LOTW tree services skip – and it is the part LOWA contractor rules care about most. No brush piles left on the curb past pickup hours. Dump trailers absorb everything. Tie in our junk removal service if there is non-tree debris in the same visit.

Lot Management Coordination and Insurance Documentation

Many LOTW lots are managed for absentee owners through individual lot managers or LOWA committees. We coordinate scope and documentation with both – pre-existing-condition photos, written work summary, and post-job photos. For storm-damage tied to an insurance claim we deliver itemized invoicing, written hazard assessment, and adjuster-ready paperwork same day. We will talk to your adjuster directly.

Brush Clearing, View Restoration, and Multi-Property Storm Sweeps

Reclaim wooded property lines, restore lake-view sightlines (where LOWA rules allow), or run focused multi-day sweeps across eight to twelve LOTW properties after a major storm. See our land clearing and skid steer services pages.

  • Western shore lots – Keane Lake / main lake western edge.
  • Fairway lots – homes backing to the LOWA golf course, mix of mature canopy and open turf.
  • Interior wooded lots – the densest tree work in the community, where most rigging-required jobs sit.

Why Lake of the Woods Calls IronHaul for Tree Work

  • Storm-cleanup specialists. The most common LOTW tree call. Fast inside-the-gates response and efficient multi-property sweeps after major events.
  • Wooded-lot specialists. Most contractors avoid LOTW because the access is harder and the trees are taller. That is exactly what we are equipped for.
  • Insurance-ready documentation. LOTW owners run through a mix of carriers – we have delivered enough packets to know what each one wants.
  • Lot management coordination. Absentee-owner work routed through lot managers is normal. Photos, written summaries, post-job documentation for the owner abroad.
  • We know the gate. Recurring clients go on the LOWA permanent visitor list.
  • HOA-compliant. LOWA contractor rules – noise hours, dumpster placement, debris handling. We work inside them.
  • Full debris haul-off. No brush piles at the curb. Same day.
  • Rigging for mature-tree work. Climbers, anchor points, controlled section cuts.
  • Licensed and fully insured. Comprehensive general liability rated for tree work.

How Tree Removal Pricing Works in Lake of the Woods

Tree pricing in LOTW is variable because the lots vary wildly – small interior lots with single yard trees, large lakefront lots with multiple mature hardwoods, fairway lots with mixed canopy. Rough ranges:

  • Small tree, under 30 feet – $300 to $750
  • Medium tree, 30 to 60 feet – $750 to $1,800
  • Large tree, 60 to 90 feet – $1,800 to $4,500
  • Extra-large mature oak or poplar, 90 plus feet, rigging required – $3,500 to $8,500 plus
  • Storm-emergency response – quoted on site, priority pricing applies
  • Stump grinding – $150 to $450 per stump depending on diameter
  • Wood haul-off – included unless you want the wood left or milled

For very small single-tree jobs deep inside the LOTW gates we typically have a minimum service fee to cover travel and access time – usually around $400 to $500 for the smallest single jobs. Most LOTW work is large enough that this does not come up. Multi-tree and storm-sweep work absorbs the access time and is priced on scope alone. All quotes are free and written.

Recent Lake of the Woods Tree Removal Projects

Five-Tree Derecho Cleanup Across One Property – Eastern Shore

Spring derecho dropped five mature oaks across a single eastern-shore lot – one on the deck, two across the driveway, two in the back yard. Two-day cleanup. The deck tree required careful rigging because the deck framing was already compromised – climber lifted sections off rather than pulling, skid steer cleared the driveway in two trips, full debris haul-off across six full trailer loads. Insurance documentation packet delivered to the homeowner’s adjuster the same week. Total covered claim: substantial enough that the owner asked us back for two preventive removals later that summer.

Absentee-Owner Hazardous-Pine Cluster – Interior Loop

Owner lived in California. Lot manager flagged six beetle-killed pines on a wooded interior LOTW lot, all within striking distance of the home or the driveway. We coordinated with the lot manager for scope and access, ran the job over a single crew day, photographed every stage for the owner abroad, ground all six stumps, and delivered the documentation packet to both the lot manager and the owner directly. Owner approved a second visit for view-restoration brush clearing later that fall.

Pre-Listing Tree Reset and Brush Clearing – Fairway Lot

Estate sale on a long-held LOTW fairway home. Three trees flagged by the realtor as listing-photo issues – a dead pine in the side yard, a leaning poplar over the back deck, and a clump of scrub overhanging the front-yard sightline to the fairway. We took down all three with rigging on the deck tree, ground the stumps, cleared brush along the back tree line, and tied in with a property cleanup that ran the same week. Listed two weeks later, sold inside thirty days.

Lake of the Woods Tree Removal FAQ

Do you handle insurance claim work? Will you talk to my adjuster?

Yes – insurance-claim tree work is most of what we do inside the LOTW gates. Before/after photos, itemized invoicing, written hazard assessment, same-day documentation. We have submitted packets to most major carriers serving LOTW owners. If your adjuster wants to talk to us we will get on the phone.

Are you an LOWA-approved contractor?

We work inside LOTW regularly and comply with LOWA contractor requirements. If LOWA admin or your lot management needs us added to a specific vendor list, we will send insurance certificates and any paperwork they need.

I am an absentee owner. Can you work with my lot manager?

Yes. Absentee-owner work routed through lot managers is normal LOTW schedule for us. Photos before and after, written scope, itemized invoice – sent to the manager and the owner.

What about the stump? Is grinding included?

Stump grinding is quoted as an add-on. LOTW lots often have leftover stumps from previous decades – we will quote a whole set if you want the lot reset.

How big a tree can you handle?

Up to and including 100-plus-foot mature oaks and tulip poplars. For trees within striking distance of houses or decks we rig – climbers set anchor points and lower sections under control. Standard LOTW interior-lot work.

Will you take the wood? Can I keep some for firewood?

Wood haul-off is included unless you tell us otherwise. Want rounds left for firewood? Say so during the estimate and we will stack what you ask for.

Are you ISA-certified? Insured for tree work?

We carry comprehensive general liability rated for tree work. For complex health-assessment questions we coordinate with a certified arborist. For removal itself we are fully equipped and fully insured.

How does gate access work? Service minimum?

Call the gate ahead and add us to your visitor list, or put us on the permanent LOWA pre-clear list as a recurring client. For very small single-tree jobs deep inside the gates we have a $400 to $500 minimum to cover travel; most LOTW work is large enough this does not come up.

How fast can you respond to an emergency inside LOTW?

Same-day with a daylight window for trees on houses, cars, or blocking driveways. Call (540) 717-9758 directly.

Tree Down Inside Lake of the Woods? Hazardous Tree You Want Off Before the Next Storm?
